Madrid/Bruselas, 12 diciembre de 2001 (Texto:Arturo Brumal).- Dieciséis periodistas ambientales de España participaron el 10 y 11 de diciembre de 2001 en Bruselas en un seminario sobre las Políticas ambientales de la Comisión Europea, por invitación del European Journalism Center de Holanda.
Wallstroem destacó el papel de los periodista ambientales en este campo y les animó en su esfuerzo por impulsar la especialización en información ambiental de jóvenes periodistas.

Los
periodistas españoles, entre los que se encontraba una delegación de APIA,
encabezada por su presidente, Arturo Larena Larena mantuvieron un encuentro con la Comisaria Europea de Medio Ambiente, Margot
Wallstroem, quien destaco el incremento de la información ambiental a la
población en España, a pesar de lo cual el país ocupa los últimos lugares de
Europa en esta materia junto con Portugal y Grecia.

Los
periodistas españoles mantuvieron una veintena de encuentros informativos con
cerca de 20 responsables de las diversas áreas de medio ambiente de la
Comisión Europea y conocieron de primera mano el funcionamiento de las
instituciones comunitarias como el Consejo de Ministros además de profundizar
en la postura de la UE en materias como como los Organismo Modificados
Genéticamente, el proceso sancionadora en materia ambiental o los espacios
protegidos y la Red Natura 2000.
